On September 3, the "Cool Relief for a Beneficial Summer, Walking Together with Civilization" initiative – aimed at caring for and honoring outdoor workers in summer – concluded successfully. Guided by the Nanjing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Nanjing Youth Volunteers Association, the initiative was organized by the Nanjing Zhongyan Youth Development Center. As a caring enterprise, Yijiahe joined primary and secondary school student volunteers (from various schools in Nanjing) and their parents to deliver caring consolation materials to the power workers of the Shicheng Power Supply Emergency Repair Team under the State Grid Nanjing Power Supply Company. The young volunteers also gained a meaningful lesson on popular science about electricity knowledge and the passing of love.
The summer of 2022 was extraordinary: the maximum temperature across China exceeded historical records, and the number of high-temperature days in Nanjing had accumulated to over 40, posing a severe "heat test" to the power grid and people’s livelihood security. "In high-temperature weather, to ensure the normal operation of power facilities, our power staff stick to the frontline of power support – we strengthen power grid inspections, promptly eliminate potential faults, give priority to ensuring people’s livelihood electricity supply, and maintain the safe and stable operation of the power grid. We exchange our sweat for the cool comfort of thousands of households. The fact that these children came to send us cool relief is a great recognition of our work, making us feel that what we usually do is very meaningful," said Li Kexu, Secretary of the Youth League Branch of the Distribution Operation and Maintenance Center of Nanjing Power Supply Company.
"I never thought that the smooth electricity supply we usually enjoy comes from the silent efforts of so many people – they are basically on call 24 hours a day. I am very grateful to them," Jing Bihan, a second-year junior high school student from the Xianlin Campus of Jinling Middle School, told reporters. "Participating in these public welfare activities has let me understand that there are many people contributing to our beautiful society. When I grow up, I also want to be someone who serves everyone and the society like them."
